The 2012 Hangout Music Festival!

The Hangout Music Festival is a three day music extravaganza that starts Friday, May 18^th and runs through Sunday, May 20^th on the public beach at Gulf Shores, Alabama. Over 60 bands are scheduled to appear during these three days – some performing two sets. To see the lineup, Click Here! The headliners include the Dave Matthews Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jack White. Although not listed as headliners, a lot of people have heard of Steve Winwood, Coheed & Cambria, Randy Newman, Young The Giant, Cage The Elephant and Switchfoot.

What time is dinner? Supper? Our evening meal? When can we EAT?

During vacation, this is sometimes the biggest decision of the day. Where are we going to eat? And the answer constantly changes. If you have plenty of time to get ready, you might choose a higher end venue. If you barely have enough time to cover up your swimsuit, you might choose a casual, come-as-you are kind of place. If you’re trying to impress younger vacation goers, you might choose a place that throws food at you. Really! And simply telling anyone under 15 that they do this will earn you big points.

Do you want seafood? Steak? Italian? Will you be dining in? Carrying out? Having something delivered?  In the Gulf Shores, Orange Beach area the choices are vast and range from corner cafés to the fanciest of eateries. Sometimes, the choices can be overwhelming. Don’t let the huge selection intimidate you. Jump on in. Try something new. Return to a favorite.

Each time we return to Gulf Shores there is one restaurant that we go to without fail. It would not be vacation if we didn’t dine at least once at our favorite spot. Having said that, we also try to go a new place each time we visit. You would think after 21 years – some years enjoying several trips – that this would be hard to accomplish. Surprisingly enough, it’s not. There is always a place we didn’t notice before. Or, we see a new place that wasn’t there during our last trip.

If you need suggestions for an upcoming trip, here are several websites you can visit.

1.       Urbanspoon – They not only list restaurants, they rate them. An app is also available if you would like a mobile edition of the website.

2.       GulfShores.com - At their website you can choose which meal, the type of cuisine you want and whether you want to dine in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach or Fort Morgan.

3.       Golf.GulfShores.com - This website gives nice descriptions of each restaurant they list, including the hours on several. Very helpful.

4.       TripAdvisor.com - This website lists their top 110 restaurants for the Gulf Shores / Orange Beach area. It includes reviews which I find extremely beneficial.

5.       GulfShoresRestaurant.com - This website offers menus, reviews, pictures and the opportunity to vote on area restaurants.

That should be enough to get you started. I don’t want to overwhelm you with choices on where to make your choice. Wherever you decide to dine during your stay along the Gulf Coast I hope you have a marvelous experience. Bon Appétit!
